The inaugural Zimbabwe Diaspora Property Showcase, powered by Seeff Zimbabwe, took place on July 13, 2024, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel in the UK. The event was a resounding success, attracting an estimated 1,500 Zimbabweans from across the United Kingdom and even some attendees from Europe.
The showcase, organized by Zim Inspired Ltd on behalf of Seeff Zimbabwe, featured 80 representatives from 40 real estate companies based in Zimbabwe. This groundbreaking event aimed to address the unique challenges faced by the diaspora community in managing and investing in property back home.
Patience Patongamwoyo, Managing Director and Licensee of Seeff Zimbabwe, expressed her satisfaction with the turnout, stating, “This is the most well-attended show by Zimbabweans in the UK outside of entertainment shows and other genres.” The exhibition included a diverse range of participants, including estate agents, developers, conveyancers, suppliers, and even CBZ Bank, which brought its top leadership.
The free entry, sponsored by Seeff Zimbabwe, demonstrated a commitment to community support and facilitated widespread participation. The event not only provided valuable information and resources but also fostered dialogue and collaboration within the industry, underscoring a shared commitment to economic growth through diaspora engagement.
Overall, the Zimbabwe Diaspora Property Showcase proved to be a landmark event, successfully connecting the Zimbabwean diaspora with investment opportunities in their homeland and paving the way for future collaborations in the real estate sector.
A highlight of the event was a three-hour speaker conference running concurrently with the exhibition. Property experts addressed common issues and challenges faced by Zimbabweans living in the diaspora. Keynote speakers included Patience Patongamwoyo, CBZ Group Chief Executive Officer Lawrence Nyazema, property developer Kenneth Sharpe of WestProp, and other industry leaders.
The showcase provided a platform for engagement, learning, and networking. Attendees had the opportunity to explore investment opportunities, gain insights from industry experts, and participate in panel discussions. The event was particularly significant given that remittances from the estimated 2 million Zimbabweans living in the UK amount to approximately $500 million per year.
While the exact figures were still being tabulated, organizers expected business transactions from the event to run into millions of US dollars. The overwhelming success of the Birmingham showcase led partners to agree on making it an annual event. Additionally, plans were announced to take the exhibition to Dallas, USA, on April 24 and 25 the following year.
